About the Film:
When a celebrated 30-year-old storefront theatre is slated to be sold, its ensemble members search for personal, artistic, and romantic closure while planning their final season together.
REGRET LIKE THAT is a Chicago independent feature centered on the city’s storefront theatre community: the small, artist-driven spaces that serve as the heartbeat of Chicago’s theatre scene.
Unfolding over two days, the film follows a tight-knit ensemble of actors, directors, and collaborators, grappling with the loss of their artistic home. It’s a story about chosen family, identity, and the complicated reality of loving something that can’t love you back.
Blending humor, drama, and an observational, almost documentary-like style, the film captures the lived-in intimacy and emotional truth of artists navigating ambition, stability, and belonging.
Our Audience:
While deeply rooted in Chicago’s theatre scene, the film resonates far beyond it.
This is a story for:
Artists and creatives navigating uncertain careers
Anyone struggling with work/life balance
People questioning identity, ambition, and purpose
Fans of character-driven indie dramedies
At its core, the film is about belonging and the quiet fear of losing it.
